Na przestrzeni lat zaobserwowaliśmy jednak pewną tendencję: mimo dużej elastyczności poznawczej studentów I stopnia studiów kierunku Informatyka, wykazują oni minimalne zainteresowanie zagadnieniami hardware i pre-silicon design. Zdecydowanie bardziej preferują czyste oprogramowanie (software) oraz systemy operacyjne niż projektowanie sprzętu, generację kodu RTL czy layout układów.
Intel is keenly interested in computer science students, partly due to their exceptional programming skills. Over the years, however, we have observed a specific trend: despite the high cognitive flexibility of undergraduate Computer Science students, they show minimal interest in hardware and pre-silicon design topics. They strongly prefer pure software and operating systems over hardware design, RTL code generation, or layout implementation.
Powstaje zatem otwarte pytanie: Jak skuteczniej zainteresować przyszłych programistów sprzętem i sprawić, by pre-silicon design stał się jednym z ich naturalnych wyborów zawodowych?
This raises an open question: How can we more effectively engage future programmers with hardware and make pre-silicon design one of their natural career choices?
Pre-Silicon Design and Verification at Poznań University of Technology (Projekt Intel Labs | Grant nr 0310/PINN/0046).
To determine how—within the constraints of the curriculum structure—to effectively encourage students in this area, the project entitled Pre-Silicon Design and Verification at Poznań University of Technology (Intel Labs Project | Grant No. 0310/PINN/0046) was undertaken.
To permanently shift perceptions of pre-silicon design, the research process focuses on accurately diagnosing barriers and designing a lightweight educational intervention:
Rozpoznanie, co blokuje programistów przed nauką hardware'u.
Identifying what prevents programmers from learning hardware.
Wdrożenie mało inwazyjnego rozwiązania dydaktycznego (OpenLane).
Deployment of a lightweight educational solution (OpenLane).
Weryfikacja skuteczności i post-testy warsztatowe.
Verification of effectiveness and workshop post-tests.
Zamiast rygorystycznie ingerować w sztywny plan studiów, opracowano nowoczesne laboratoria bazujące na otwartych narzędziach (Open-Source ASIC). Kluczowym elementem były praktyczne warsztaty dla studentów WIiT:
Instead of rigorously modifying the rigid curriculum, modern laboratories based on open-source tools (Open-Source ASIC) were developed. A key element consisted of practical workshops for students of the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications (WIiT):
📚 Materiały i konfiguracja systemowa do zajęć warsztatowych → 📚 Workshop Materials and System Configuration →Oficjalne instrukcje i materiały wypracowane w ramach grantu zostały wdrożone i opublikowane w strukturach wydziałowych, unowocześniając ścieżkę kształcenia:
Official instructions and materials developed under the grant have been implemented and published within faculty structures, modernizing the educational path:
Wyniki badań ankietowych, obserwacji jakościowych oraz walidacji skuteczności warsztatów zostały usystematyzowane w ramach rygorystycznego nurtu Design-Based Research (DBR) i przygotowane w formie artykułu naukowego.
The results of survey studies, qualitative observations, and workshop validation were structured within a rigorous Design-Based Research (DBR) framework and prepared as a scientific manuscript.
The research manuscript summarizing project outcomes is currently under review in the prestigious journal IEEE Transactions on Education (TonEdu).
Projekt badawczo-dydaktyczny oraz wdrożenie ścieżki laboratoryjnej zostały zrealizowane przez zespół pracowników naukowych Instytutu Informatyki Politechniki Poznańskiej:
The research-educational project and laboratory track deployment were carried out by a team of researchers from the Institute of Computing Science at Poznań University of Technology:
Nasza grupa badawcza, Neurocybernetics and Microsystems Engineering Laboratory (NME), wchodzi w skład Zakładu Uczenia Maszynowego.
Our research group, the Neurocybernetics and Microsystems Engineering Laboratory (NME), operates within the Machine Learning Research Group. We originate directly from the team of Professor Andrzej Handkiewicz, whose scientific work included pioneering the development of CAD tools for microelectronic systems. The laboratory is currently led by the professor's protégé – Assoc.
In our research and teaching activities, we specialize in key areas of modern microelectronics and systems engineering. We conduct research and projects encompassing FPAA design as VLSI (field-programmable analog arrays and their applications), embedded systems on FPGA (advanced digital design and hardware architectures), Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG – physical entropy sources and implementation), integration of quantum technologies with embedded systems as precursors of the Quantum Internet of Things (Q-IoT), as well as neural networks, Spiking Neural Networks (SNN), and neuromorphic computing using the Intel Loihi neuroprocessor. Furthermore, the NME Laboratory delivers core electronic courses for the Computer Science degree program (undergraduate and graduate studies).
